  • Treatment Approach

Dr. Van Veldhuizen takes a trauma-informed, collaborative, whole-health approach to treatment. She focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship as the foundation for assisting her clients in reaching their goals in therapy. She understands that issues related to identity, physical health, mental health, and one’s environment are intertwined, and shape a person’s life experiences and treatment needs. She often combines aspects of several evidence-based treatments to tailor interventions to each individual and ensure that treatment is thoughtful and comprehensive. She invites ongoing conversations with clients about how therapy is going and seeks to adjust treatment as needed based on these conversations.

Dr. Van Veldhuizen cares deeply about diversity and strives to be culturally responsive, warm, and collaborative. She focuses on building self-awareness, exploring the values that drive goals in therapy, and building understanding of the connection between thoughts, feelings, physical health, and behaviors. She values providing tools and skills to enhance self-efficacy and coping and encourages life-long, continued practice of these skills in and outside of therapy. Her approach helps clients live a meaningful, fulfilling life that is consistent with their needs and core values.
