Dr. Sheetal Gandhi

(she/her/hers)

  • Expertise & Background

Dr. Gandhi provides individual psychotherapy and brain-gut behavioral therapy to adults (ages 18+). She earned her graduate degree from PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in Palo Alto, CA and completed her APA-accredited internship training at VA Sacramento Healthcare System during which she received training in trauma-focused care.

Dr. Gandhi’s clinical training has been focused on serving marginalized communities and her research has centered multicultural considerations in clinical psychology. Dr. Gandhi is especially drawn to supporting individuals navigating multicultural identities, immigration-related experiences, and the complexities of living between cultures. This may include exploring acculturation, intergenerational relationships, minority stress, identity and cultivating a sense of belonging.

Dr. Gandhi received specialized training in health psychology services during her APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at VA Boston Healthcare System. She is certified in Motivational Interviewing, an evidence-based approach that empowers clients to make meaningful changes that are aligned with their health and values. Dr. Gandhi specializes in working with people adjusting to medical conditions and medical trauma. She has experience in GI Psychology and a particular interest in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

  • Treatment Approach

Dr Gandhi identifies as a first-generation immigrant, South-Asian, cisgender, heterosexual, woman. She is attuned to the complexities and impact of navigating the world with minoritized identities and strives to create identity-affirming care environments where you can feel comfortable bringing all aspects of your lived experiences.

You may be trying to make sense of how culture, family, identity, or immigration experiences have shaped the way you see yourself and your relationships. Or you may be dealing with the practical and emotional realities of a medical condition, such as uncertainty, difficult decisions, changes in your body or daily life, or a loss of trust after a difficult medical experience. You want to understand what is happening, feel less stuck, and develop ways of coping that actually fit your life and values. Therapy can be a place to finally put words to experiences that are difficult to explain to people who have not lived them.

Whether you are navigating identity, family and cultural expectations, or the realities of illness, you do not have to figure it all out on your own. Dr. Gandhi offers a thoughtful, curious, and honest space to work through it together. Her approach is structured, collaborative, and evidence-based.
